In their initial consultation, the homeowners emphasized wanting a more open space with a better flow to accommodate this active family of four along with their two dogs. After collaborating with their designer, the decision was made for extensive structural changes: to remove the load-bearing wall separating the kitchen from the dining room, the existing kitchen pantry, the existing kitchen sliding door and window and have the foyer closet reworked. The new design opened up the space to include the dining area, replaced the sliding door access to the back patio with an added large bay window keeping the space light and airy and closed the pocket door access to the entry hallway to extend the wall cabinetry and fit a much-needed family desk area with a cork board backsplash.
