Contemporary Kitchen with Entertainment Space in Wilmington, DE

This Contemporary Kitchen replaced an outdated 1980’s style kitchen that was in serious need of a new look. The empty nest couple wanted a design that would reflect the more restful stage of life they were about to enter. A high priority to the homeowner was a contemporary kitchen design space that was optimal for entertaining.

The cooking center is the focal point of the space which includes a 5-burner professional gas cooktop with a signature stainless steel Cheng hood accented with horizontal shaped Calacatta marble tiles. A second sink at the cooking area also assists the client’s coffee station behind the tambour door. The refrigeration wall includes a built-in Sub-Zero on the right and is balanced with a full size Sub-Zero wine storage to the left which lends to the entertaining theme. The microwave was placed in between the Sub-Zero units and is hidden behind a pull up door. The cleanup area includes a Franke stainless steel farmhouse sink, with a contemporary kitchen faucet, along with a fully integrated dishwasher to the left and pullout double waste baskets on the right. There is plenty of dish storage above which includes contemporary kitchen cabinets with glass doors accented with a tile backsplash that continues up behind the wall cabinet. The rectangular shaped island provides good counter space for prep work along with a stepped-up eating area for two. The double ovens are located directly behind the island, so the island also provides an area for loading and unloading the ovens. The Calacatta marble that accents the two-level kitchen island top compliments the white quartz material on the perimeter countertops. The custom cabinets are made of Sapele quartered veneers with a horizontal graining that starts in one corner and continues around the entire space. The space did not require any curtains because the client wanted the natural light to flow through the entire kitchen, exposing the intricate details throughout.

In the end, this couple got both what they wanted and needed … a beautiful kitchen that was a great space for entertainment!
